ViviendasLeon has been bringing student and family trips to Nicaragua for more than 15 years. These trips are a 7 day program for families who want to introduce their children to service and global citizenship while being immersed in a new place, language, people and culture. The trips include 6 days in León and 1 day in Granada, Masaya and Laguna de Apoyo.
In León our three main goals are to explore the culture, history and language of the city and it's people, work alongside rural families and children in the indigenous communities of Sutiaba near Leon where we are engaged in our multi-disciplinary, sustainable development programs, and spend time throughout the trip learning from local people and educators about Nicaragua, while discussing the experiences we are having at the end of each day.
In Leon, each family stays together in a homestay, in a neighborhood where we have close relationships with many families. Homestays are an ideal way to get to know how Nicaraguans live; their customs, food and culture. At the end of the trip In the Granada area, we will visit this beautifully restored colonial town, explore the historic market of Masaya and spend the evening and following day at Laguna de Apoyo among the flora and fauna of this ancient volcano and swimming in its beautiful and scenic lake.
