French American International School
April 1-12, 2018
ViviendasLeón and the French American International School will partner for the first time in 2018 to create a unique Global Education Program with an intensive focus on language immersion. The goal of global education is to place students in learning situations outside the classroom, challenging them to use their skills in new ways, examine their own preconceptions, find their inner strengths and return with new capacities and insights.
Our 12 day Global Education Program will have students immerse themselves in international development work, Nicaraguan culture, history and language. They will live in home stays and have the opportunity to practice their language skills at home while having breakfast and dinner with their host families. As part of their language focus, FAIS students will receive Spanish lessons at a local language school to help strengthen their understanding and handling of Spanish.
Throughout the week students will visit local and regional landmarks such as the Leon Cathedral, the Revolutionary Museum, hike up El Cerro Negro and take a night tour of the Masaya Volcano. As a part of Global Education students will navigate new situations while carrying out service projects in Goyena and Troilo. Students will spend afternoons working side by side with rural families in these communities where we have been working for more than 10 years, contributing to the sustainable community projects like food security farming and arts education.
ViviendasLeón takes pride in our Global Education Program as we foster students’ experiences in a developmental manner to prepare them to be global citizens by participating in a meaningful and worthwhile service-learning experience.
