Little Honey Bee Company, COABE, begins production

The Little Honey Bee Company began in March 2012 as a project to support the graduates of the Human Capacity Training (HCT) program. Bee keeping is the key to a diverse agriculture environment, and will be an important contributor to Goyena’s economic development.

The cooperative started with 6 members and 5 hives. With increased technical knowledge, they expanded to 10 hives by the first half of 2013. The original 5 hives generated their first production of 80 liters of honey at the end of 2012, with gross revenues of $400 – an enormous sum in a community where the average monthly income per family is $120. The cooperative, like our other micro-enterprise projects, creates jobs and stimulates the Goyena community’s local economy
