Goyena Women's Sewing Company Project
The Sewing Company began in March 2010, and was ViviendasLeón’s first business development project. A number of women in the community had been trained to sew and wanted to start a business, but did not have the necessary technical and financial skills. They began with 5 members, manual sewing machines, raw materials of cloth, thread, etc., and business training from our project partner, the University of San Francisco’s School of Management.
The Sewing Company now has market sales of an extensive line of sewn products including clothing, linens and women’s accessories. In 2012, the Cooperative purchased electric sewing machines and relocated to a more secure building with electricity. The Cooperative is poised to expand, create more jobs and further stimulate the Goyena community's economy.
